  6. VHF Field Day Results
  7.  
  8. South Dublin Radio Club, EI2SDR/P operating from their usual site 
  9. on Kippure, were the runaway winners of the open section of the 
  10. 1995 VHF/UHF Field Day held over the first weekend in July. 
  11.  
  12. They set a record score of 8,699 points, one that will probably 
  13. stand for many years. Conditions were the best that anyone 
  14. remembered for Field Day and SDR operated on three bands, with 
  15. bonus points on both 432 and 1296 MHz. Congratulations to the 
  16. South Dublin team who will collect the Thomond Tropy at the AGM in 
  17. Ballsbridge. 
  18. The team was EI2DNB, EI3IA, EI3GV, EI7GY, EI7HT, EI9HW and EI9HZ.

  20. Runners-up were the East Cork Group EI7M who travelled to Slieve 
  21. Bui in County Wexford for the event.
  22.  
  23. Congratuations also to the Cork Radio Club EI5CRC/P winners of the 
  24. restricted section from Bweing Mountain in County Cork. The team 
  25. was as usual, EI2HY, EI2IB and EI6ETB.

  31. IRTS 2 Metres Counties Contest
  32.      
  33. Excellent weather conditions and better than average propagation 
  34. conditions contributed to a very successful 2 Metres Counties 
  35. Contest last Sunday afternoon.
  36.  
  37. All the regular participants seem to have improved scores and new 
  38. records seem likely.
  39.  
  40. Thanks to all who participated, especially those hardy individuals 
  41. who took the trouble to get to elevated sites.
  42.

  44. at QTHR.

  48. GI Packet Working Group
  49.

  51. The GI-Packet Working Group will hold an OPEN MEETING in the 
  52. Cohannon Inn, which is near Dungannon, on Tuesday next 16th April 
  53. at 8.00 p.m.

  55. Anyone involved in packet radio or interested in getting involved 
  56. is invited to attend.

  64. Enniskillen Rally
  65.  
  66. Next Sunday will see the usual pilgrimage North, as many EI 
  67. amateurs head to Enniskillen for the annual rally promoted by the 
  68. Lough Erne Amateur Radio Club.
  69.  
  70. This is one of the best rallies on the island, held in excellent 
  71. surroundings and is well worth a visit.

  75. International Marconi Day
  76.  
  77. The 9th International Marconi Day will be held over 24 hours on
  78. Saturday next April 20th. The event is run by the Cornish Amateur 
  79. Radio Club and there will be up to forty special event stations on 
  80. the air world wide.
  81. There are seven different award categories available this year as 
  82. follows:
  83. 1. Transmitting amateur, mixed modes, work 15 stations.
  84. 2. Transmitting amateur, mixed modes, mobile, work 12 stations.
  85. 3. Transmitting amateur, CW only, work 15 stations.
  86. 4. Transmitting amateur, digital modes, work 15 stations.
  87. 5. Transmitting amateur, mixed modes, multi operator, work 20  
  88.    stations. Also available for CW only or Digital only.
  89. 6. Shortwave Listeners, Log 15 station, mixed modes.
  90. 7. Shortwave listeners, Log 10 stations, CW only.

  92. The following five EI stations with their contact persons are 
  93. listed as taking part:
  94. EI5IMD - EI2HY,Cork;        EI6YXQ - EI6AH, Ballybunion;            
  95. EI3IMD - EI2GS,Dublin;      EI4JAM - EI4DJB, Dublin and        
  96. EI4IMD - EI4FT,Clifden.

  98. Claims for the awards should be a log extract and should be sent 
  99. to Sue Thomas G0PGX, Cornish Radio Amateur Club, P.O. Box 100, 
  100. Truro, Cornwall TR1 1RX. The cost for each award is 10 US Dollars, 
  101. four pounds sterling or 12 IRCs.

  105. New Galway Packet Bulletin Board
  106.  
  107. The new Galway Packet Bulletin Board is now operational on 144.600 
  108. MHz, 1200 baud.
  109. The callsign of the BBS is EI4GRC and users who can't hear the BBS 
  110. direct can connect to it via the LRC digi-peater in Limerick .
  111. The sysop, EI2IE, would like to express his gratitude to Ken 
  112. EI7DKB, who helped a lot with the setting up problems. Setting up 
  113. a BBS is not easy, and having an experienced sysop at hand helped 
  114. a lot.This new BBS has filled a gap in the West of Ireland as 
  115. users up to now had to connect to either Cork, Tipperary or 
  116. Waterford for a BBS service.

  119. Talk on Packet and Amateur Radio at UCC.
  120.  
  121. On a recent Saturday morning, Sean EI5HE, and Tony EI9HK gave a 
  122. talk on packet and on amateur radio to a group called SCUL in 
  123. Univesity College Cork. They are a group organised by school 
  124. students for school students and they operate under the auspices 
  125. of the Computer Department of UCC. They meet in UCC on Saturday 
  126. mornings and their main interest is computers.

  128. The talk last Saturday was about packet radio and the use of 
  129. computers in general in our hobby. Areas covered were, packet, 
  130. amtor, pactor, rtty, the tnc, the modem and winpack.
  131.  
  132. The students found it very intersting and at least two of them 
  133. have shown a strong interest in doing the exam and becoming future 
  134. amateur operators.

  138. IRTS AGM & Dinner
  139.  
  140. Tickets for the IRTS Annual Dinner to be held in Jurys Hotel in 
  141. Ballsbridge on Saturday week, April 27th are selling well, priced 
  142. at twenty two pounds. They are still available from Brendan O'Kane 
  143. EI4CYB at 01-8463865.

  145. Guests at the dinner will include the usual representatives from 
  146. the Department of Communications as well as the Presidents of the 
  147. German National Society, DARC and the British National Society 
  148. RSGB.
  149.  
  150. The Annual General meeting will be held on the Sunday at the same 
  151. venue starting at 1430 local.
  152. Fingal Radio Club. who are hosting the weekends activities will 
  153. also be running a Radio and Electronics exhibition on the Sunday, 
  154. also in Jurys Hotel in Ballsbridge.

  158. Shannon River Run
  159.

  161. Hopefully by now most of you will have already worked one or more 
  162. of the Shannon River Run stations. Operation will conclude at 1800 
  163. local time this evening so there is still time to work those last 
  164. few stations needed for the award. A total of five stations with 
  165. the SRR suffix in the callsign must be worked to qualify, though 
  166. any particular station can be counted more than once provided it 
  167. is worked on a different band or mode. A special effort will be 
  168. made by the SRR stations to call in after all the IRTS news 
  169. bulletins today, after which they will QSY to their usual 
  170. frequencies. Look out for them on 3670, 7070 and 14270. Some CW 
  171. operation will also take place on 3570, 7007 and 14070.
